Africa flag quiz: design features to look for
Every question in an Africa flag quiz comes down to a few design clues: the colors, the number of stripes and the symbols. These are the clues that matter most in Africa:
- The Pan-African colors are green, yellow and red. They come from the flag of Ethiopia, and they are on the flags of Ghana, Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Cameroon, Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau and the Republic of the Congo.
- Stars decide many of the answers: Ghana has a black star, Senegal a green star, Cameroon a yellow star and Burkina Faso a yellow star on red and green.
- Mozambique has an AK-47 rifle on its flag, and it is the only national flag with a modern rifle.
- Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia and Algeria use Arab colors or a crescent, which links them to the flags of western Asia.
- Mauritius has four horizontal stripes of red, blue, yellow and green, and Seychelles has five bands that fan out from the corner.
- Eswatini and Lesotho both show a traditional shield or hat, which is a clue to the answer.
