Canada calculators handle the parts of everyday math that change at the border: GST, HST, PST and QST by province, mortgages compounded twice a year, RRSP and TFSA limits, provincial overtime rules and metric units. These free Canada calculators show the formula and the working for every result.
Quick answer: Canada charges a 5% federal GST everywhere, plus HST, PST or QST in most provinces, so $100 costs $113 in Ontario, $112 in British Columbia and $105 in Alberta. For 2026, the RRSP dollar limit is $33,810 and the TFSA limit is $7,000. Ontario overtime starts after 44 hours at 1.5 times pay.

How to use these Canada calculators
Every one of the Canada calculators opens with a worked example, so the answer is on screen before you type. Choose Canada or your province in tools that have a country or province setting, and the rates and rules switch for you.
- Pick the calculator from the decision table below or the cards above.
- Choose your province or Canada in the country box, and set the currency symbol if you want C$.
- Enter your numbers. Rates such as a mortgage rate are editable examples, not quotes.
- Read the answer and open the working, then copy the result or the link.
The currency menu changes the symbol shown, for example to C$, so enter every amount in Canadian dollars. Canada calculators work best when the price, the rate and the tax all use the same currency.
All of these Canada calculators run in the browser, with nothing sent to a server. Results are estimates for planning, not tax or financial advice.

Canada sales tax: GST, HST, PST and QST by province
Canada has a federal GST of 5% that applies in every province and territory. Five provinces combine it with their own tax into one harmonized sales tax, the HST. British Columbia and Saskatchewan charge a separate PST, Manitoba charges RST and Quebec charges QST. Alberta and the three territories have no provincial or territorial sales tax. The Canada sales tax calculator applies the right mix for you.
| Province or territory | Taxes charged | Combined rate | Tax on $100 | Total on $100 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alberta | GST 5% | 5% | $5.00 | $105.00 |
| British Columbia | GST 5% + PST 7% | 12% | $12.00 | $112.00 |
| Manitoba | GST 5% + RST 7% | 12% | $12.00 | $112.00 |
| New Brunswick | HST 15% | 15% | $15.00 | $115.00 |
| Newfoundland and Labrador | HST 15% | 15% | $15.00 | $115.00 |
| Northwest Territories | GST 5% | 5% | $5.00 | $105.00 |
| Nova Scotia | HST 14% | 14% | $14.00 | $114.00 |
| Nunavut | GST 5% | 5% | $5.00 | $105.00 |
| Ontario | HST 13% | 13% | $13.00 | $113.00 |
| Prince Edward Island | HST 15% | 15% | $15.00 | $115.00 |
| Quebec | GST 5% + QST 9.975% | 14.975% | $14.98 | $114.98 |
| Saskatchewan | GST 5% + PST 6% | 11% | $11.00 | $111.00 |
| Yukon | GST 5% | 5% | $5.00 | $105.00 |
Example: a $250 purchase in Ontario adds 13% HST, which is $32.50, for a total of $282.50. The same $250 in British Columbia adds 5% GST plus 7% PST, which is $30, for $280. To remove tax, divide by 1 plus the rate: $113 ÷ 1.13 = $100.
The rates come from the Canada Revenue Agency and the provincial sites, checked in October 2026. Nova Scotia is at 14%, one point below the other Atlantic HST provinces. Use the GST calculator when you only need the 5% federal tax, such as on an invoice outside the HST provinces.
Canada mortgage calculators: semi-annual compounding
Canada mortgage calculators differ from US tools because of how interest is stated. Under the federal Interest Act, a rate on a mortgage must be stated with a yearly or half-yearly basis, and fixed Canadian mortgage rates are quoted with semi-annual compounding. The mortgage calculator converts the quoted rate to an effective monthly rate: (1 + rate ÷ 2)1/6 − 1. Variable rates are usually compounded monthly.
Example: a $360,000 mortgage at 5% for 25 years costs $2,093.78 a month with semi-annual compounding, against $2,104.52 if the same 5% were compounded monthly. The gap is small, about $11 a month, but over 25 years it adds up to about $3,200. Always compare lenders on the same compounding basis.

With less than 20% down, a Canadian mortgage must be insured, and the premium is added to the loan. A 25-year amortization is typical, and accelerated bi-weekly payments shorten the loan because you make the equivalent of an extra monthly payment each year. Confirm current limits and premiums with your lender or CMHC.
Accelerated bi-weekly payments are common in Canada. Paying half of the monthly amount, $1,046.89, every two weeks makes 26 half payments a year, the same as 13 monthly payments. On the $360,000 example this clears the loan in about 21 years 6 months instead of 25 years and cuts total interest from $268,133 to $224,620. The Canada mortgage calculators show both schedules side by side.
Canada financial calculators: loans, savings and credit cards
Canada financial calculators use the same formulas as everywhere else, so the choice is mainly about the country setting and the currency symbol. Pick the Canada setting in each of the Canada calculators and the tax and compounding rules follow. The loan calculator and car loan calculator show the payment, total interest and payoff date for any loan. The credit card payoff calculator shows how long a balance lasts, and the compound interest calculator projects savings with monthly deposits.
For example, $10,000 at 5% compounded monthly grows to $16,470.09 after 10 years. A car loan of $30,000 at 6% over 5 years is $579.98 a month. Add HST or GST and PST to the vehicle price before you enter the loan amount, because tax is charged on the purchase.
Canada retirement calculator: RRSP, TFSA and CPP
A Canada retirement calculator treats your RRSP and TFSA balances as savings and puts Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and Old Age Security (OAS) in the other income box, in today’s dollars. An RRSP is generally tax-deferred, so withdrawals are taxed as income, while TFSA withdrawals are not. CPP can start as early as 60 at a reduced amount, and OAS generally starts at 65. The retirement calculator projects all of it against inflation.
| Year | RRSP dollar limit | TFSA dollar limit |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | $30,780 | $6,500 |
| 2024 | $31,560 | $7,000 |
| 2025 | $32,490 | $7,000 |
| 2026 | $33,810 | $7,000 |

The RRSP deduction limit is generally 18% of the previous year’s earned income, up to the dollar limit, and your notice of assessment shows your own room. The 2026 year’s maximum pensionable earnings figure is $74,600.
Overtime and hourly pay in Canada
Canadian labour standards are set mostly by the provinces and territories, and by the Canada Labour Code for federally regulated workplaces. In Ontario, overtime begins after 44 hours in a work week and is paid at 1.5 times the regular rate. An employee earning $25 an hour who works 48 hours is paid 44 × $25 + 4 × $37.50 = $1,250. Other provinces use different thresholds, so type your own in the overtime calculator.
The hourly to salary calculator uses 2,080 hours as a starting point. At $25 an hour that is $52,000 a year, $4,333.33 a month or $2,000 every two weeks. Change the hours and weeks to match your province and your contract.
Grades and GPA in Canada
Canada has no national grading scale, so the weighted percent is the same everywhere but the letter changes. Alberta schools commonly list A+ at 90 to 100%, while British Columbia high schools use A for 86 to 100% and B for 73 to 85%. Universities then convert grades to their own GPA scale. The weighted grade calculator and final grade calculator work with percents or points.
Metric units and conversions for Canada
Canada uses metric for fuel, temperature and road signs, but people often mix in feet and inches for height and square feet for floor area. Fuel economy is quoted in liters per 100 km, so 25 miles per US gallon is 9.41 L/100 km and 40 miles per imperial gallon is 7.06 L/100 km. The MPG calculator converts both. In the kitchen, the metric cup is 250 mL and a tablespoon is 15 mL, while a traditional Canadian cup was 227 mL, which the cups to grams converter can use.
Together, these Canada calculators cover tax, borrowing, saving, pay, school and units, so most Canadian questions are one search away on this page.
Dates, time zones and statutory holidays
Each province and territory sets its own time. Where daylight saving time is observed, the dates match the United States, and Saskatchewan stays on one time all year. British Columbia ends its clock changes after March 8, 2026 and stays on UTC−7 from November 1, 2026, and Alberta adopts permanent Alberta Time (UTC−6) from November 2026. Newfoundland is on UTC−3:30. The time zone converter applies the right offset by date.
Statutory holidays are set by each province and territory, plus a federal list, so Family Day or Victoria Day may not apply where you live. Add your province’s days to the extra days box of the business days calculator.
Canada BMI calculator in kilograms and centimeters
A Canada BMI calculator uses metric by default: BMI = kg ÷ m². Someone who is 180 cm and 75 kg has a BMI of 75 ÷ 1.8² = 23.1, in the 18.5 to 24.9 range most health services call healthy. BMI is a screen, not a diagnosis. The BMI calculator also accepts pounds and inches.
Real-life uses for Canada calculators
- Shopping across provinces. A $1,000 laptop costs $1,130 in Ontario, $1,120 in British Columbia and $1,050 in Alberta, which is why Canada calculators ask for the province first.
- Buying a home. Test the mortgage at three rates with semi-annual compounding before you talk to a lender.
- Saving. Compare putting $7,000 in a TFSA with the same money in an RRSP using the retirement calculator.
- Working shifts. Enter your province’s overtime threshold and your hourly rate to preview a pay cheque.
- Cooking and driving. Convert a US recipe from cups to grams, and a US mpg figure to liters per 100 km.

Frequently asked questions
10 quick answers
What are Canada calculators?
Canada calculators are tools that use Canadian rules and units: GST, HST, PST and QST, semi-annual mortgage compounding, RRSP and TFSA limits, provincial overtime and metric measures. They show the formula and the working.
What is the GST rate in Canada?
The federal GST is 5% in every province and territory. Five provinces combine it with a provincial tax into an HST of 13% to 15%, and Quebec, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba add their own separate tax.
How much is sales tax in Ontario?
Ontario charges a 13% HST, which is 5% federal plus 8% provincial. A $100 item costs $113, and $113 with tax included is $100 before tax.
Why is a Canadian mortgage calculated differently?
Fixed-rate Canadian mortgages are quoted with semi-annual compounding, so the effective monthly rate is (1 + rate ÷ 2) to the power 1/6, minus 1. That makes the payment slightly lower than monthly compounding at the same quoted rate.
What is the RRSP limit for 2026?
The RRSP dollar limit for 2026 is $33,810, according to the Canada Revenue Agency. Your own room is generally 18% of last year’s earned income up to that limit, plus any unused room.
What is the TFSA limit for 2026?
The TFSA dollar limit for 2026 is $7,000, the same as 2025 and 2024. Unused room carries forward, so your total room depends on your age and past contributions.
When does overtime start in Canada?
It depends on the province. In Ontario, overtime starts after 44 hours in a work week at 1.5 times the regular rate. Federally regulated workplaces follow the Canada Labour Code, and other provinces differ.
Do the calculators use metric units?
Yes. Canada setting uses liters, kilometers, kilograms and Celsius, and you can switch any unit. The MPG calculator converts miles per gallon to liters per 100 km.
Are there Canada calculators for students?
Yes. The weighted grade and final grade calculators work with the percent grades Canadian schools use, and the GPA calculator converts letters to points. Check your school or university for its own scale before you rely on a result.
Are the 2026 figures current?
The sales tax, RRSP and TFSA figures were checked in October 2026. Mortgage and loan rates are editable examples, so type the rate from your own quote.
