How to count days between dates
- Pick the start date, or leave it as today.
- Pick the end date. It can be before or after the start date.
- Choose whether to include the end date.
- Read the results: total days, weeks and days, years, months and days, and weekdays.

Days between dates: inclusive or not?
From Monday to Friday is 4 days if you count the gaps between them, or 5 days if you count both Monday and Friday. Both answers are right; they answer different questions.
- Without the end date: use this for ages, time elapsed and “how many days until” questions. From January 1 to January 31, 2027 is 30 days.
- With the end date: use this for the length of an event counted in days, such as a 31-day challenge from January 1 to January 31, or a festival that runs Friday to Sunday (3 days).
- Nights vs days: a hotel stay from Friday to Sunday is 2 nights but covers 3 days.

Date difference calculator: weeks, months and years
As well as days, the date difference calculator shows the same gap in other units:
- Weeks and days: 100 days is 14 weeks and 2 days; 365 days is 52 weeks and 1 day.
- Years, months and days: counted on the calendar, so January 15 to March 20 is 2 months and 5 days, whatever the length of February.
- Weekdays: only Monday to Friday. There are 261 weekdays in 2027 and 22 in October 2026. Public holidays are not taken out, so subtract them yourself for working days.
Months have different lengths, so a “month” is not a fixed number of days. The rhyme “Thirty days hath September” helps, and the printable chart above lists every month with its day-of-year number. Wikipedia’s Gregorian calendar article explains month lengths and the leap year rule.
Count days between dates by hand
For two dates in the same year, subtract their day-of-year numbers. March 1, 2027 is day 60 and July 4, 2027 is day 185, so there are 125 days between them. Across a new year, count the days left in the first year, then add the day number in the second year. Remember the leap year rule: a year divisible by 4 is a leap year, except century years, which must be divisible by 400. 2028 is a leap year, 2100 will not be.
The calculator counts whole calendar days, so the time of day and time zones do not change the answer. If you need business days rather than weekdays, take public holidays out as well: for example, October 2026 has 22 weekdays, but in the US one of them, Columbus Day on Monday, October 12, is a federal holiday, leaving 21 federal working days. How many days until Christmas?
Set the start date to today and the end date to December 25. From October 2, 2026 it is 84 days.
Does the days calculator count weekends?
The main total counts every day. The weekdays line counts only Monday to Friday.
Should I include the end date?
Include it when you count the days of an event, such as a holiday from the 1st to the 7th (7 days). Leave it out for time elapsed or days until a date.
Does it handle leap years?
Yes. February 29 is counted in leap years such as 2028.
Can I enter the dates in either order?
Yes. If the end date is before the start date, the calculator still shows the number of days between them.
