Tambola Number Caller

This free tambola number caller draws the numbers 1 to 90 in a shuffled order, one at a time, and never repeats a number. Press the big button or switch on auto-call and the ball appears on screen, is read out loud if you want, and is marked on a call board that you can show on a TV. It works for tambola, housie and 90-ball bingo, and this tambola number caller runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up.

In short: open the tambola number caller above, leave the game type on 90-ball, choose a speed, and press Call the next number. Every number comes out exactly once, a game needs at most 90 calls, and a full house usually lands between call 69 and call 79 (see the simulation below).

Run a game with the tambola number caller in 7 steps

You need tickets for the players and one device for the host. Print tickets from the tambola ticket generator or the 90-ball bingo cards page, or let players write their own. Then follow these steps with the tambola number caller.

  1. Check the game type. In the tambola number caller the selector above the ball should read 90-ball tambola and housie. The same tool also does 75-ball bingo, 80-ball bingo and a junior 30-ball game.
  2. Tell the players the prizes. The usual list is Early Five, top line, middle line, bottom line, four corners and full house. The tambola number caller shows that list under the board so everybody sees the same one.
  3. Pick the voice. Choose English, Hindi or off, set the speed, and tick the traditional call box if you want “Two little ducks, twenty-two” style calls.
  4. Choose manual or auto-call. Manual means you press the button each time, which suits a small group that chats between numbers. Auto-call repeats on its own every 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20 or 30 seconds.
  5. Call the numbers. Every call lights the board and joins the last five calls. If someone missed it, press Repeat. If you pressed too early, Undo takes the last call back.
  6. Pause when someone shouts. Stop auto-call, then use Check a winning card: type the numbers from the ticket and the tool says whether all of them were called.
  7. Start a fresh game. In the tambola number caller, New game builds a new random order. The old game is saved in your browser until then, so an accidental reload does not lose your place.

Keyboard shortcuts help when you are juggling a microphone and a plate of snacks: Space or Enter calls the next number, P pauses or starts auto-call, U undoes the last call and R repeats it. A host who rehearses the tambola number caller for two minutes will run the whole evening smoothly.

Tambola number caller online: what the tool does

A tambola number caller online needs no install: it is a web page that works on a phone, a laptop or a tablet. The table lists what it can do. Nothing is uploaded and nothing needs an account.

Feature How it works
Calls 1 to 90 once each The numbers are shuffled with your browser’s secure random generator and dealt one by one, so no number can come out twice.
Call the next number One large button, plus Space or Enter on a keyboard.
Auto-call Every 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20 or 30 seconds, with pause.
Voice English, Hindi or off, with a speed setting and a choice of the voices installed on your device.
Traditional calls An optional first line such as “Legs eleven”, read before the number in 90-ball games.
Undo and repeat Undo takes back the last call; Repeat says it again (U and R).
Call board 1-90 Called numbers are marked and the newest is highlighted. The last five calls sit under the ball.
Calls so far A list in call order with a Copy button, handy for settling a dispute.
Check a winning card Type the numbers on a claimed ticket and the tambola number caller says whether all were called.
Prize list Early Five, three lines, four corners and full house, shown as a reminder.
Big-screen mode A clean full-screen view for a TV, projector or video call. Esc leaves it.
Saved game The game stays in the browser and resumes after a reload.

What the tambola number caller does not do: guests cannot join from their own phones, there are no accounts, and there are no sound effects. If you want players on their own devices, the live tambola game handles that.

Tambola number caller with voice: English, Hindi or silent

The voice setting decides how a number is announced. Choose English and the tambola number caller with voice reads the number as one phrase, for example “twenty-two”. With the traditional call box ticked it first says the nickname, so you hear “Two little ducks, twenty-two”. Choose off and the call stays silent, which suits a quiet room or a host who prefers to read numbers aloud.

The Hindi option depends on your device. If a Hindi voice is installed, the tool hands it the number and the voice reads it in Hindi. If none is installed, the tambola number caller spells the number as a Hindi word, such as pachchees for 25, and your English voice reads that spelling. It is understandable but not perfect, and a phone with a proper Hindi voice sounds much better than a laptop without one.

Voices vary more between devices than anything else. Under the voice menu you can pick a specific one, and the speed menu slows it for children or older guests. Press Repeat last call once before the party starts, and set the volume higher than feels natural, because a living room full of chatter swallows a quiet voice quickly.

Traditional calls only play in English mode and only in the 90-ball game. In Hindi mode the tool says the Hindi number word alone. The housie number calls guide lists the calls most players know, if you want to add a few by voice yourself.

Tambola number calling and the traditional calls

Tambola number calling is half information and half theater. Players need the number clearly, but the old nickname calls give the room something to repeat and laugh at. The tambola number caller carries the standard British-style list of 90 nicknames, which most housie groups recognize. You can switch it off at any point with the checkbox under the speed menu.

The ten most loved calls for a tambola number caller

If you only use a handful, these get the loudest reaction. The reasons are the usual explanations people offer; nobody can prove where each call began.

Ten traditional calls for a tambola number caller with voice: Kelly eye, Legs eleven, Two little ducks and more
Ten of the traditional calls the tool can say before the number.
Number Traditional call Why it works
1 Kelly’s eye The first call of the traditional list, and the one new players learn first.
2 One little duck Two on its own is easy to miss, so the call gives it a little rhythm.
7 Lucky seven Seven has been a lucky number for a long time, so the call says so.
11 Legs eleven The two straight ones look like a pair of legs.
13 Unlucky for some Everyone knows why this one is on the list.
22 Two little ducks Two number twos look like two swimming ducks, so it is “Two little ducks, twenty-two”.
44 Droopy drawers A rhyming, slightly silly call that always gets a laugh.
66 Clickety click The sound of a ratchet or a clock, hence the click.
88 Two fat ladies The two round shapes of an eight are the two ladies.
90 Top of the shop The last and highest number, so it tops the shop.

Hindi number words the tool speaks

When the voice is set to Hindi and no Hindi voice is installed, the tambola number caller uses the words below, written in Latin letters. The first table covers 1 to 20, and the second shows the round tens you will hear most often. The tambola number caller carries a word for each of the 90 numbers.

Number Hindi word Number Hindi word
1 ek 11 gyaarah
2 do 12 baarah
3 teen 13 terah
4 chaar 14 chaudah
5 paanch 15 pandrah
6 chhah 16 solah
7 saat 17 satrah
8 aath 18 athaarah
9 nau 19 unnees
10 das 20 bees
Number Hindi word In English
30 tees thirty
40 chaalees forty
50 pachaas fifty
60 saath sixty
70 sattar seventy
80 assi eighty
90 nabbe ninety

A short pause after each call helps when players listen in a second language. For a family with young children, auto-call at 10 or 15 seconds in Hindi lets everyone find the number before the next ball arrives.

Tambola prizes and dividends

A tambola ticket has 3 rows and 9 columns with 15 numbers in total, five in each row. The prizes, often called dividends, reward the first ticket to complete each shape. Agree them before the first call, and write them where everybody can see them.

Prize What the player needs Typical order
Early Five Any five numbers on one ticket, in any rows. Almost always the first prize.
Top line All five numbers in the top row. Mid game.
Middle line All five numbers in the middle row. Mid game.
Bottom line All five numbers in the bottom row. Mid game.
Four corners The first and last number of the top row and of the bottom row. Often before the first full line.
Full house All 15 numbers on the ticket. Always last, and it ends the game.
Diagram of a tambola ticket showing the numbers needed for a top line, four corners and a full house
The same ticket three times, with the numbers that must be called for a top line, four corners and a full house.

House rules vary. Some groups add Star or Pyramid, and some skip four corners. The tambola number caller shows the usual six and does not enforce any of them: you decide when to pause and check. For the full rules see the how to play tambola guide.

How many calls does a tambola game take? A real simulation

We simulated thousands of games with random tickets that follow the standard layout: three rows, nine columns, five numbers per row, and each column holding one to three numbers from its own block of ten. Each game used a fresh shuffled order of 1 to 90, like the tambola number caller does. The table shows the median call on which the first player completes each prize, with the middle half of games in brackets.

We ran 2,500 games for each ticket count. A ticket count is the number of different tickets in play, whoever holds them. The more tickets, the sooner somebody wins.

Prize 6 tickets 12 tickets 30 tickets 60 tickets
Early Five (any five numbers on one ticket) 17 (14-20) 15 (12-17) 12 (10-14) 11 (9-12)
Top line 60 (51-68) 52 (44-59) 44 (37-50) 39 (33-44)
Middle line 59 (50-67) 52 (44-59) 44 (37-50) 38 (32-44)
Bottom line 59 (51-67) 52 (44-60) 44 (38-51) 39 (33-44)
Four corners 54 (44-63) 46 (36-54) 38 (30-45) 32 (26-38)
Full house (all 15 numbers) 79 (75-82) 76 (72-79) 72 (69-75) 69 (65-72)
Bar chart of the call on which tambola prizes are won for 6, 12, 30 and 60 tickets
Median call on which each prize is won in 2,500 simulated games per ticket count.

Two things stand out. First, the lines and four corners need many calls even with 60 tickets, because every number on a row must appear. Second, a full house is remarkably stable: with 12 tickets it falls near call 76, with 60 tickets near call 69. By then nearly all 90 numbers have been called, so plan for a game of about 70 to 80 calls.

Tambola number caller timing at 5, 8, 10 and 15 seconds per call

The time per call is the real planning number for a party. Multiply the median call by the seconds between numbers and you have the running time to full house, before any pause to check a ticket. Add a minute for each prize check.

Tickets in play Median calls to full house 5 seconds 8 seconds 10 seconds 15 seconds
6 79 6:35 10:32 13:10 19:45
12 76 6:20 10:08 12:40 19:00
30 72 6:00 9:36 12:00 18:00
60 69 5:45 9:12 11:30 17:15
Whole board (all 90 numbers) 90 7:30 12:00 15:00 22:30

In practice most groups run the tambola number caller slower than the speed they set, because people chat. A kitty party with a dozen guests and a game to full house at 10 seconds takes about 12:40, which fits neatly between the snacks and the main course. Many hosts run two short games at 5 or 8 seconds instead of one slow one, and give a prize for each.

These are simulated results, not guarantees: any one game can run shorter or longer, and the brackets show how wide that spread is. Real tickets from the ticket generator follow the same rules as the ones we simulated.

Tambola number generator or caller or random number picker?

People search for a tambola number generator when they want a list of random numbers from 1 to 90, and for a caller when they want to run a live game. This tool is both: it generates the whole order up front and then reveals it one number per call. That behavior is what separates it from a plain random number picker.

Tool Draws without repeats? Good for
This tambola number caller Yes. Each of the 90 numbers appears exactly once. Running a tambola or housie game from the first call to the full house.
A random number picker Usually no. Each click is a fresh draw, so a number can come out twice. Picking a winner or a quiz order, not a tambola game.
A bag of paper slips Yes, if you do not put numbers back. A house game where nobody minds the ceremony.
A printed call sheet Yes, if made before the game. A caller who wants no screen at all.

The shuffle uses your browser’s secure random generator, the same source that web pages use for security tasks. A shuffled list of 90 numbers has about 1.49 x 10^138 possible orders, so two games essentially never match. Nothing needs a server, so nobody can see or change your order.

Housie number generator: same thing, different name

A housie number generator and a tambola one are identical: both draw 1 to 90 without repeating. Different regions simply use different words. If you searched for either and landed here, the tambola number caller above is what you want.

Housie number caller, tambola and 90-ball bingo compared

A housie number caller works for any of the 90-number games, and the names describe almost the same thing. This table shows where the differences actually are.

Name Where you hear it Numbers Ticket Typical prizes
Tambola India, and Indian communities abroad 1-90 3 rows x 9 columns, 15 numbers Early Five, lines, four corners, full house
Housie India, the UK and parts of Asia 1-90 The same ticket Often the same list; the word can also mean the full house itself
90-ball bingo (UK) UK bingo halls and online bingo 1-90 Tickets printed in strips of six One line, two lines, full house
75-ball bingo United States and Canada 1-75 5 x 5 card with letters B-I-N-G-O Many patterns, including blackout

For the American 75-ball game use the bingo number caller, which is the same tool with a different preset. The theme tambola tickets page has 25 illustrated designs if you want your game to look special. For background on the game itself, the Tombola article on Wikipedia covers where it came from and how it relates to housie and bingo.

How to check a ticket fairly

The most common argument at a tambola night is “I had that number!” The tambola number caller removes it if you follow a routine.

  1. When a player shouts, pause auto-call straight away. Do not call another number until the claim is resolved.
  2. Ask the player to read out the numbers of the winning row or ticket, and type them into the Check a winning card box.
  3. Read the result aloud. The tambola number caller says whether every typed number was called, so you do not have to scan the board.
  4. If the claim is good, note the prize and decide whether the game carries on for the next one.
  5. If a number was not called, it is a false claim. Agree beforehand whether that player is out or just loses the prize.

The tambola number caller check only compares the numbers you type with the numbers actually called. It does not read a ticket from a photo, so a second person should read along. Keep the Calls so far list open and you also have a written record to copy into the group chat. Make sure no two players hold identical tickets, because identical tickets win together.

Host a game on Zoom or a WhatsApp video call

The tambola number caller fits a video call well, because only the host needs it. Players print tickets or keep one on their own screen. The host opens the tool, presses Big screen and shares that window.

  • Share the right window. On Zoom use Share Screen, pick the browser window, and turn on Share computer sound if you want the voice to reach everyone.
  • Use big-screen mode. It shows the ball and the call board without menus, so it reads clearly even on a phone. Esc leaves it.
  • Send tickets in advance. Share a link or PDF before the call so people have a ticket ready.
  • Slow the pace. Video adds a delay, so auto-call at 10 or 15 seconds, or call manually.
  • Back up the voice. If it sounds thin over the call, mute it and read each number yourself.

On WhatsApp video, screen sharing works the same way on most phones, but picture quality is lower. Read each number aloud as well as showing it, and post the Calls so far list in the chat now and then so late joiners can catch up. Winners still have to speak up, because the tool does not know who is playing.

When to use the live game instead

This caller is a host tool. Each player needs a printed or on-screen ticket and has to call out a win. That suits a living room, a classroom or a hall, where everyone hears the same call in the room.

If guests are in different places and want the game on their own phones, use the party games hub instead. The live tambola game there lets players join by link and mark their tickets themselves. For a bingo version, see play bingo online. For a kitty, the kitty party tambola page has matching tickets, and the kitty party games guide has ideas to fill the afternoon.

Frequently asked questions

10 quick answers

Is this tambola number caller really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no ad wall and no limit on games. Everything happens in your browser, and nothing about your game is sent anywhere.

Can a number come out twice?

No. The tambola number caller shuffles 1 to 90 once at the start of each game and deals them in that order, so every number is called exactly once. Press New game for a fresh order.

How many numbers does a tambola game use?

Ninety, from 1 to 90. In our simulation a full house arrived around call 69 to 79 depending on the number of tickets, and a game never needs more than 90 calls.

Does the caller speak Hindi?

Yes, the tambola number caller speaks Hindi as an option. With a Hindi voice on your device it reads the number in Hindi. Without one, it spells the number as a Hindi word and an English voice reads it. You can also turn the voice off.

What are the traditional calls?

The tambola number caller says nicknames such as “Two little ducks” for 22 and “Legs eleven” for 11. The tambola number caller has one for each of the 90 numbers and says it before the number when the box is ticked. The full list is in the tables above.

Can I use it for housie or bingo?

Yes. This tambola number caller works for housie because housie is the same 90-number game as tambola. For 75-ball bingo use the game type menu or the bingo caller page. There are also 80-ball and junior 30-ball options.

How do I check a winner?

Pause the game, type the numbers from the winning ticket into the Check a winning card box, and the tambola number caller says whether all of them were called.

What happens if I reload the page?

The tambola number caller saves your game; it is saved in your browser and resumes where you left it. Starting a new game clears it. A private window or cleared browser data may remove the saved game.

Can I use it on a TV or on Zoom?

Yes. In the tambola number caller, big screen mode fills the window with the ball and the call board. Press Esc to leave it. Share that window on Zoom, or cast the browser to a TV.

Can my guests join from their own phones?

Not in this tool: it is for the host. For guests joining by link, use the live tambola game on the party games hub.
