Every question in an North America flag quiz comes down to a few design clues: the colors, the number of stripes and the symbols. These are the clues that matter most in North America:
- Canada has a red maple leaf with eleven points on a white square between red bars.
- Jamaica has black, green and gold, and it is the only national flag with no red, white or blue.
- Dominica has a purple parrot, which is a very rare color on a flag, and Belize has two people on its coat of arms.
- The Dominican Republic is the only national flag that shows a Bible, in the center of its coat of arms.
- Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua have blue, white and blue stripes, a design that goes back to the Federal Republic of Central America.
- Haiti and Liechtenstein both had a blue and red flag, and the two were found to be the same at the 1936 Olympic Games, so Liechtenstein added a crown in 1937.
- Mexico has an eagle on a cactus with a snake in its beak, and the United States has 13 stripes and 50 stars.
