Eid holidays 2027 UAE: how long are the breaks?
The two Eids give the longest breaks of the UAE public holidays 2027 list. These lengths use the expected dates and the Saturday and Sunday weekend that federal government offices follow:
| Holiday | Expected dates | Days off in a row |
|---|---|---|
| Eid al-Fitr | Tuesday, March 9 to Thursday, March 11 | 3, or 6 if you also take Friday, March 12 (Tuesday to Sunday) |
| Eid al-Adha | Saturday, May 15 to Tuesday, May 18 | 4, with the weekend and Monday and Tuesday holidays |
| National Day | Thursday, December 2 and Friday, December 3 | 4, with the weekend: Thursday to Sunday |
| New Year’s Day | Friday, January 1 | 3: Friday to Sunday |
The UAE sometimes moves a holiday to a Friday or a Monday to give a longer weekend, so check the official announcement before you book travel. The government portal u.ae publishes the confirmed public holidays.
Why the UAE public holidays 2027 use expected Islamic dates
The UAE uses the Islamic (Hijri) calendar for religious holidays, so the UAE holidays 2027 for Eid and the new year move every year. A Hijri year has about 354 days, roughly 11 days fewer than the Gregorian year, so the same holiday moves about 11 days earlier each year. Months begin when the new crescent moon is sighted, so a date can change by a day. The comparison with 2028 at the end of this page shows the shift. Wikipedia’s Islamic calendar article explains how the months are counted, and its public holidays in the United Arab Emirates article lists the official days.
UAE public holidays 2027: working weeks, Ramadan hours and leave
- Weekend: federal government offices work Monday to Friday, with a shorter Friday, and have a Saturday and Sunday weekend. Many private companies follow the same pattern, but some use Friday and Saturday or a six-day week.
- Ramadan: expected from about February 8 to March 8, 2027. Working hours are shortened during Ramadan, usually by two hours a day, and restaurants and cafes change their daytime hours.
- Annual leave: after a year of service employees are entitled to 30 calendar days of annual leave a year under the UAE labor law, in addition to the public holidays. Check your contract for details.
- Working on a holiday: employees who work on a public holiday should receive a replacement day off or extra pay, depending on the law and the contract.
Dubai public holidays 2027 and the other emirates
The Dubai public holidays 2027 are the same as the UAE public holidays 2027 for the rest of the country, and so do Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates. Government departments, free zones, schools and the private sector sometimes announce their own arrangements, such as an extra day around Eid, so read the notice from your employer or school. Banks and government offices close on the public holidays, while malls, restaurants and tourist attractions are normally open, often with longer hours.
UAE public holidays 2027 compared with 2028
Because the Islamic holidays move earlier every year, the 2028 list looks quite different from 2027. New Year’s Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, and National Day falls on a weekend, so check whether a compensating day is announced.
| Holiday | 2027 (expected) | 2028 (expected) |
|---|---|---|
| Eid al-Fitr | Tuesday, March 9 | Saturday, February 26 |
| Day of Arafah | Saturday, May 15 | Thursday, May 4 |
| Eid al-Adha | Sunday, May 16 | Friday, May 5 |
| Islamic New Year | Sunday, June 6 | Thursday, May 25 |
| Prophet’s Birthday | Saturday, August 14 | Thursday, August 3 |
| National Day | December 2 and 3 (fixed) | December 2 and 3 (fixed) |
