There is no official Starbucks secret menu. Secret menu drinks are fan-made customizations of regular menu drinks, so you order them by describing the changes. We calculated seven popular builds from official Starbucks nutrition data: they land between 200 and 420 calories for a Grande, and a French Vanilla Latte adds about 80 calories to a plain latte.

Is there really a Starbucks secret menu?
No. Starbucks does not list a hidden menu, and not one of the 217 drinks and foods in the current Starbucks menu data uses a name such as “French Vanilla Latte”, “French Vanilla Frappuccino”, “Cinnamon Roll Frappuccino”. The drinks people call the Starbucks secret menu are combinations that customers and baristas came up with by changing syrups, milks, shots and toppings on regular drinks. Baristas are not trained to make them by name, which is why you must order the recipe, not the nickname.
How to order a secret menu drink at Starbucks
Order the recipe in the same order a barista writes it on the cup:
- Size: say Short, Tall, Grande, Venti or Trenta. See Starbucks cup sizes for ounces and which sizes each drink has.
- Base drink: name a regular menu drink, such as a Caffè Latte or a Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino.
- Substitutions: change a milk or syrup, for example 2 pumps of hazelnut.
- Additions and toppings: extra shots, whipped cream or drizzle come last.
Keep the order short when the store is busy, be ready to explain the parts if the barista does not know the nickname, and tip for complicated drinks. Add-ons can change the price, which varies by store.
Starbucks secret menu drinks: calories for 7 popular builds
Each row starts from an official drink and adds the changes below. The base calories are Starbucks figures for a Grande, and the build calories are estimates from the calculator model, which values syrup pumps and extra shots. Sugar and caffeine are for the build.
| Secret menu drink | Base drink | What you add | Base cal | Build cal (est.) | Sugar (g) | Caffeine (mg) | Lighter version cal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| French Vanilla Latte | Caffè Latte | 2 pumps hazelnut + 2 pumps vanilla | 190 | 270 | 36.8 | 150 | 230 |
| French Vanilla Frappuccino | Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino | 2 pumps hazelnut | 380 | 420 | 61.4 | 0 | 340 |
| Cinnamon Roll Frappuccino | Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino | 2 pumps cinnamon dolce | 380 | 420 | 61.4 | 0 | 340 |
| Candy Cane Frappuccino | Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino | 2 pumps peppermint | 380 | 420 | 61.4 | 0 | 340 |
| Churro Frappuccino | Caramel Frappuccino | 2 pumps cinnamon dolce | 380 | 420 | 63.4 | 90 | 340 |
| Dirty Chai Latte | Chai Latte | 2 espresso shots | 200 | 210 | 31 | 205 | 205 |
| Iced Dirty Chai Latte | Iced Chai Latte | 2 espresso shots | 190 | 200 | 31 | 210 | 195 |
The lighter version uses half the added pumps (at least one), one fewer extra shot and no whipped cream, which is the simplest way to cut secret menu calories. Every base drink name links to the exact drink in the Starbucks calorie calculator, where you can change the milk, pumps and shots yourself.
What adds the calories in a custom drink?
Secret menu drinks are sweeter because they stack syrup. These are the building blocks used above:
| Change | What it adds | Source |
|---|---|---|
| One pump of vanilla, hazelnut or other flavored syrup | +20 cal, +4.7 g sugar | Starbucks calculator value (vanilla; other flavors treated the same) |
| One extra espresso shot | +5 cal, +75 mg caffeine | Starbucks espresso listing |
| Whipped cream on an iced Grande | +60 cal, +7 g fat | Starbucks calculator value |
That is why two extra pumps add about 40 calories and about 9.4 g of sugar. A Dirty Chai Latte works the other way: two extra shots add only about 10 calories, but they bring the caffeine to 205 mg.
How many secret menu calories does each extra pump add?
The fastest way to price a custom order is to count the pumps. This table adds flavored syrup to a plain Grande Caffè Latte and to a Grande Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino, using the calculator model:
| Extra pumps of syrup | Latte calories | Latte sugar (g) | Frappuccino calories | Frappuccino sugar (g) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | 190 | 18 | 380 | 52 |
| 1 | 210 | 22.7 | 400 | 56.7 |
| 2 | 230 | 27.4 | 420 | 61.4 |
| 3 | 250 | 32.1 | 440 | 66.1 |
| 4 | 270 | 36.8 | 460 | 70.8 |
Each pump is worth roughly the same: four extra pumps, as in the French Vanilla Latte, add about 80 calories and 18.8 g of sugar to a latte. Cutting two pumps is the simplest way to lighten a secret menu drink without changing the flavor much.

How does the milk change a French Vanilla Latte?
The same build with different milks, for a Grande with 2 pumps of hazelnut and 2 pumps of vanilla:
| Milk | Calories (est.) | Sugar (g) | Protein (g) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2% Milk (standard) | 270 | 36.8 | 13 |
| Nonfat Milk | 210 | 36.8 | 13 |
| Whole Milk | 300 | 36.8 | 13 |
| Almondmilk | 180 | 24.8 | 4 |
| Oatmilk | 280 | 24.8 | 4 |
| Soymilk | 260 | 36.8 | 11 |
| Coconutmilk | 220 | 31.8 | 2 |
Almondmilk and Nonfat Milk give the lowest numbers in the table, and Whole Milk the highest.
Common mistakes when ordering a secret menu drink
- Ordering the nickname only. Baristas may not know it, so give the base drink and the changes.
- Forgetting hot or iced. The same recipe is a different drink, and a different number of calories, in each form.
- Ordering at the busiest time. Long custom orders slow the line and are more likely to be made wrong.
- Assuming it is lighter. Most builds stack syrup, so check the calories before you order.
Which secret menu drinks did we not calculate?
Some famous builds rely on ingredients Starbucks publishes no per-pump values for, so any secret menu calories figure for them would be a guess. These include mocha and white mocha sauce builds, toffee nut and chestnut praline syrups, strawberry purée, cold foam variations and drizzles. Examples from the lists we read are the Butterbeer Frappuccino, the Twix Frappuccino and the Candy Cane Cold Brew. For those, start from the base drink calories in the calculator and treat the total as higher than the base.
Secret menu questions people ask
Is there an official Starbucks secret menu?
No. Starbucks does not publish one. The drinks are customer and barista creations made by changing regular menu drinks.
Can I order a secret menu drink by name?
Sometimes a barista will recognize it, but the safe way is to order the base drink and list the changes. Baristas are not trained on the nicknames.
How do I find the calories of a custom order?
For secret menu calories, open the Starbucks calorie calculator, choose the base drink and size, then change the milk, pumps, shots and whipped cream. The result is labeled as an estimate once you customize.
Are secret menu drinks higher in calories?
Usually, because secret menu drinks stack syrup pumps. In our seven builds a Grande ranges from 200 to 420 calories, compared with 190 to 380 for the base drinks.
Do Starbucks secret menu drinks have caffeine?
It depends on the base. The frappuccino builds above use a crème base with no coffee, while a Dirty Chai Latte has 205 mg with two shots.
