What is on each Children’s Day coloring page
Every Children’s Day colouring page shows one big, cheerful picture with large spaces to fill. Here is what you get and who each page suits best.
| Page | Picture | Good for age | Colour idea or fun fact |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Chacha Nehru smiling, with a rose on his coat and children around him | 6 to 9 | Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, loved children, and they called him Chacha Nehru. He often wore a rose on his coat, so color it red. |
| 2 | Happy children of different backgrounds holding hands under a rainbow | 4 to 7 | A rainbow has seven colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Give every child a different shirt colour. |
| 3 | A big bunch of balloons with stars | 4 to 6 | Use a different colour for each balloon, and make the stars yellow or gold. Children can write a wish on each balloon. |
| 4 | Kids flying kites and playing in a park | 5 to 9 | Kites look best in bright colours against a light blue sky. Add green grass and a sunny yellow sun. |
| 5 | A red rose in a decorative frame | 6 to 9 | The red rose is linked with Nehru and Children’s Day. Color the petals red, the leaves green and the frame in any pattern you like. |
Younger children can start with the balloons or the rainbow. Older kids will enjoy the rose frame and the Nehru page, which have more detail. Kids who want a Children’s Day drawing can copy the balloons or the rose onto blank paper after coloring.
Tips for Children’s Day coloring pages
- Crayons or markers? Crayons suit small hands and big spaces. Markers are bright but can bleed, so put a spare sheet under the page. Coloured pencils work well for the rose frame.
- Nehru’s coat. Nehru is often shown in a long, light-coloured coat called an achkan or sherwani, with a white Gandhi cap. Soft cream, white or light brown look good, with a bright red rose.
- Faces and hair. On the rainbow page, children can choose skin and hair colours that look like their own friends and family. Every colour is the right colour.
- Add some sparkle. A little glitter glue on the stars or a ribbon of colour on each kite tail makes the page feel festive.
Turn it into a Children’s Day activity
- Classroom display. Hang all five pages in a row under “Happy Children’s Day” to make a bright wall for 14 November.
- Card for a teacher. Cut out the coloured rose or balloon bunch, glue it on folded card and write a thank-you message inside for a teacher, a school helper or a grandparent.
- Writing prompt. Ask kids to write three lines about the children on page 4. What games are they playing? Our story paper has space for a picture and lines.
- Quiz time. Finish the session with a few easy questions from our Children’s Day quiz, which has 30 questions on Bal Diwas and Chacha Nehru.
- Speak and write. Older children can prepare for the school assembly with our Children’s Day speech, write simple sentences with 10 lines on Children’s Day, or try the longer Children’s Day essay.
A note for teachers and parents
In India, Children’s Day, or Bal Diwas, is kept on 14 November, the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, who was born in 1889. It is a day to remember that every child has the right to learn, play, be safe and be heard. The United Nations marks Universal Children’s Day on 20 November. The Nehru page is a gentle, respectful cartoon, and the other pages show simple, happy scenes with no religious content, so they suit every classroom.
Children’s Day drawing ideas
Many schools hold a Children’s Day drawing competition on 14 November, and these coloring pages double as reference pictures to copy. The two easiest Children’s Day drawings are Chacha Nehru’s rose and a kite, and both start from simple shapes.
How to draw a rose, step by step
- Draw a small spiral in the middle: this is the tight centre of the rose.
- Draw a curved petal on each side of the spiral, like two cupped hands.
- Add a bigger, wavy petal underneath that wraps around the first two.
- Draw a long, slightly curved stem, then two leaves shaped like almonds with a line down the middle.
- Color the petals red or pink, using a darker shade where petals overlap, and the stem and leaves green.
How to draw a kite, step by step
- Draw a diamond (a square standing on one corner), taller than it is wide.
- Draw two lines from corner to corner to make a cross inside it.
- From the bottom corner, draw a long wavy string for the tail.
- Tie small bows along the tail: two tiny triangles meeting at a point.
- Color the four parts of the kite in different colors and add clouds or a sun behind it.
Children’s Day drawing competition: themes by class
| Classes | Theme ideas | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Nursery to class 2 | My favourite toy; balloons and a rainbow; a red rose | 30 to 40 minutes |
| Classes 3 to 5 | Children of India playing together; my dream school; flying kites in the park | 45 minutes |
| Classes 6 to 8 | Chacha Nehru with children; every child’s right to learn and play; a clean and green world for children | 60 minutes |
Simple judging points that feel fair to children: how well the drawing fits the theme, use of color, creativity and neatness. Give every child a small certificate so nobody goes home empty-handed; the printable award certificates work well for this.

Frequently asked questions
7 quick answers
When is Children’s Day in 2026?
Children’s Day 2026 in India is on Saturday 14 November 2026, Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday. If your school is closed on Saturday, it may hold its celebration a day early. Universal Children’s Day is on Friday 20 November 2026.
Are these Children’s Day coloring pages free?
Yes. All five pages are free to download and print. There is no sign-up. You can print each page on its own or get all five in one PDF.
Why is a rose on the Children’s Day colouring pages?
Jawaharlal Nehru often wore a fresh rose on his coat, so the red rose has become a symbol of Children’s Day in India. Page 1 shows the rose on his coat, and page 5 is a rose in a frame.
Which paper size should I choose?
Pick A4 for India, the UK, Australia and most other countries, and US Letter if you are in the USA or Canada. Both versions have the same picture, sized to fit the page.
Can I use them in my classroom?
Yes. Teachers can print as many copies as they need for their own class, school event or home group. Please share a link to this page instead of uploading the files to another website.
Is there a Chacha Nehru coloring page?
Yes. Page 1 is a Chacha Nehru coloring page that shows him with his rose and three happy children. The other pages show a rainbow, balloons, kites and a rose, and each one can become a Children's Day drawing with your own background.
Which easy Children's Day drawing suits a school competition?
Chacha Nehru's rose and a kite are the two easiest, because both start from simple shapes: a spiral and petals for the rose, a diamond and a wavy tail for the kite. For nursery to class 2, balloons and a rainbow also work.
