Free alphabet worksheets for preschool and kindergarten. Print a letter of the week pack for any letter (trace it, find it, follow the letter maze and color it with starting-sound words), or practice the whole ABC with missing letters and uppercase-lowercase matching. For the very youngest, pre-writing tracing lines build pencil control before letters.
Quick answer: alphabet worksheets help children aged about three to six learn the 26 letters in three ways: recognizing each letter in uppercase and lowercase, linking it to its sound, and forming it with a pencil. Each letter has its own page here, and the maker can build a letter of the week pack, a SATPIN group or the whole ABC in one PDF. This page has free letter of the week packs for all 26 letters (4 pages each, 104 pages in all), plus ABC order, missing letters and pre-writing lines, as printable PDFs for US Letter or A4. Updated October 2026.

A simple order for teaching letters
Many teachers start with the letters S, A, T, P, I and N, because they make lots of simple words (sat, pin, tap, nap). Type SATPIN in the maker to print a pack for that group. Then add letters a few at a time, and leave tricky letters like Q, X and Z for later.
Alphabet worksheets for every letter, A to Z
Each letter has its own page with a letter of the week pack, tracing, find the letter and starting-sound words. Pick the letter your child is learning this week:
When all 26 are done, the Alphabet Review Worksheets mixes every letter for revision.
Three skills inside every letter
| Skill | What it looks like | Best page for it |
|---|---|---|
| Letter recognition | Spotting B and b among other letters, and naming them | Find the letter and letter mazes, our main letter recognition worksheets |
| Letter sounds | Knowing that B says /b/ as in ball | A is for… page, starting-sound words |
| Letter formation | Starting each stroke in the right place and direction | Trace the letter, letter tracing worksheets |
Children rarely learn all three at once. It is normal to name a letter weeks before writing it neatly, so these alphabet worksheets keep the three skills on separate pages.
When b and d get mixed up
Reversing b and d, or p and q, is very common up to about age seven and is not a sign of a problem on its own. Two tricks help: make a “bed” with both fists, thumbs up, so the b is on the left and the d on the right, and always start b with a tall line and d with a round belly. The find the letter set for b, d, p, q, m and w gives focused practice on exactly these look-alikes.
Using the ABC worksheets at home or in class
- One letter, five short sessions. Trace on Monday, find on Tuesday, maze on Wednesday, sounds on Thursday and a review on Friday.
- Keep it short for little ones. Preschool alphabet worksheets work best one page at a time, five minutes at most.
- Start with their name. Children learn the letters in their own name fastest; type them into the maker as one pack.
- Say the sound, not just the name. “This is S, and it says /s/ like snake” links the letter to reading.
- Print in black and white for coloring. Choose black ink so children can color the letter pictures themselves.

How long does it take to teach the alphabet?
A letter of the week pace is gentle and common, but it is not the only choice. Kindergarten children are expected to recognize and name all the upper- and lowercase letters by the end of the year (Common Core RF.K.1.D), so even the slow pace below fits. Here is how long the alphabet takes at different paces:
| Pace | Pages per week | Weeks for A to Z |
|---|---|---|
| One letter a week (4 pages) | 4 pages | 26 weeks |
| Two letters a week | 8 pages | 13 weeks |
| SATPIN group first | Letters S, A, T, P, I and N | Then add the other 20 letters at your own pace |
